Ultrasober, ultrarunner!!

So yesterday I completed my first ultra. 50k of HOT, humid, hard single track with a lot of rock and root and technical vertical.

What an accomplishment! 8 hours and 22 minutes of pushing my body.

At the finish a guy with a cooler of ice cold beer offered me one in congratulations.

'That's really kind of you man, thanks. But I don't drink'

Damn, that felt good.

Happy sober Sunday everyone.

That's awesome! Ultra Running and Triathlon is something that really interests me.

Gotta get these 150+ pounds off first though!

That's awesome! One of the fears I have moving forward in sobriety is the ability to do races and feel obligated to have a beer afterward. Thanks for the example! And congrats on a 50K!!!!

Besides last thing anybody needs after pushing themselves physically that way is alcohol. You need to re hydrate and stuff.

Well done though that is pretty impressive stuff.

Every ultra begins with just running a few steps....

150+ lbs can be whittled away at the same way.....

You can do it.

Start Today.

I couldn't help notice that at least a dozen others declined his offer. Yet another of my alcoholic mind beliefs: that 'everyone' has a beer to celebrate finishing a run.

Nope.

That is amazing free owl ... And inspirational! I also run a lot and struggled with an eight mile run in Ohio humidity the other day ..
I am very impressed you turned down a beer at the finish line! That is something I always looked forward too and even had my family bring one or two at the races that didn't offer.
PS ...only five weeks sober ... But it is amazing how much better my runs feel physically in the past two weeks ... Curious if you noticed the difference so quicky as well?

Wow, congratulations! I'd love to start running again, but I'd need to wait until the weather cools down a little... Im only eight days sober but you've inspired me to start again. I could run a measles 5k before... I doubt I could now.

Congrats! I am beginning to train for a half marathon in April 2016. I haven't been running in several years and I need to slowly build up to prevent injury.

The buzz felt from exercise far exceeds any alcohol or drugs.

Are you signed up for another ultra or race, FreeOwl?
