telling others
So last night I told a group of complete strangers I was an alcoholic. I didn't plan on it but glad I did. I'm the working mom/ wife that tries to hold it all together. We have a recovery group at my church and our leader is a well respected lawyer and his wife is a Dr. They first told this group of strangers about our class of recovering alcoholics. The look on this groups face was PRICELESS! So I wanted to jump in also. Being an alcoholic in the south aka bible belt is just a big no no but I have the best church and our leaders agree all sin is the same and the church is hospital for sinners, not a hotel for saints! It was pretty freeing! After that lots of people in this group opened up about their personal struggles.

Rdb I'm in Athens, GA too. Quite the drinking town, eh?
Sorry, Alynn, got excited and hijacked your topic. Way to be brave and honest about who you are! Sometimes it's worth it to put an unexpected face on a disease that a lot of people associate with moral decrepitude.

I think everyone struggles with something at points in their lives. This is your struggle at the moment, but it won't define you - it's just a struggle.
Overcoming is a big deal in church (and in life.) I find sharing problems to be a bridge to helping others. Good for you!
Happy Day Ten! I'm proud of you!

Good for you Alynn. And ten days, too. That's great.
I've never been to Georgia. Maybe one of these days. Now that I'm sober, trips are more realistic. I don't worry about how I'm going to get my drinking in and still "function."

Thank you guys. For me the struggle is going to down the road tying to remember I can't drink. I can go months and not even think about it now but when I do give in it always takes me further then I wanted to go . One drink is never one drink... Going to stay plugged in to my recovery group at church, sponsor, steps, mtngs and SR!
