Relapse

17 days ago I had a relapse that lasted 4 days. Almost 2 weeks sober since then, and more importantly I've been to an AA meeting, which was enormously helpful. It is reassuring to meet people going through the same things as yourself. I bought a book 'Living Sober', and dip into in when my av is active. I intend to go to more meetings, and will be consulting this site on a daily basis.

Congratulations on your 2 weeks.

The program works when we work it and it is work, not a walk in the park to recover as so many posts here point out.

I strongly suggest having a sponsor who is basically a guide to point out the sober path. A sponsor is not a lifetime guide so if he/she don’t work out choose another. Try not to escape one because they may say things you don’t like, try to be objective and honest with yourself.

Becoming sober is for yourself and all other reasons that seem to take preference to us can get us in serious trouble in the beginning which is longer than most people like.

BE WELL

Relapse King here. Until I went to those meetings, anyway. I relapsed quite a few times while going to them, too. Took me awhile to get it.
Just remember, you never have to drink again. That's the important thing. That, and finding others in the same boat who are successfully recovering by whatever means.
Keep going to those meetings. Read the Big Book and look for the similarities you share with other alcoholics.
Best to you.

Nice going on two weeks. That's not an easy thing to accomplish. Sounds to me like your heading in the right direction and that you are active in your recovery. Just keep working on your plan like your doing and you'll be fine. John

Good job on two weeks. That Living Sober book is great. I have a copy myself and it's practical. Keep it up!

I don't know where to start, apart from at the beginning. This has been one of the worst weeks of my life. Started drinking 6 days ago, and basically haven't stopped. Have been drinking just to get through the night, and obliterate thought, and just to sleep. Feel desperate. All I know is that I have to stop. Please help. Just tell me where to start.

First things first if you have any remaining alcohol pour it down the drown get rid of anything that is associated with your drinking

Start writing up a plan for recovery make a tea/coffee & first thing tomorrow it would be wise booking a Dr apt to get help with wd

In the meantime check these links out

Start right here, right now.... BY STOPPING ANY FURTHER DRINKING.

If you have concerns about physical withdrawal - get yourself to a detox.

Pour out any remaining booze and stick around.....

If you've been drinking around the clock for 6 days, the first and only thing I would focus on is sobering up safely. Start with that. Nothing, and I mean literally nothing is more important than that right now. Once you get cleaned out, you can start the next step or phase. We are no good to anyone (including ourselves) while drunk or withdrawing.

I second what many are saying here. With that kind of drinking stretch, you really should seek medical attention to make sure you withdraw safely. After that, then you can focus on putting a plan in place. For now, take care of yourself and be safe!

Do you have access to medical care bunny? I will always say here I really wish I had a medical detox, I was unprepared for how debilitating withdrawal can be. If you are withdrawing now , do you have someone who can be with you?
