Strange

Hey all!

I've been kinda quit lately but still around. Hope you are all well.

Ok so my husband always had a problem with my drinking. I hid most of it from him. I've maybe seen him drink 10 drinks in the 8 years. Last night we we're at a wing restaurant/ bar. He says "I've never wanted to drink so bad since you've stopped". He said I think I could get smashed. Just kinda weird that he, a mon drinker, is having these urges since I've stopped.... Just strange

HI ALYNN!

Glad you're still doing well. I don't think it's strange at all. Most people want what they can't have. It sounds like he isn't drinking at all for you, which is really nice. Personally, I think one of the hardest parts of quitting drinking is knowing you'll never drink again. For me I kept thinking well one last time...

10 drinks in 8 years heavily suggests he isnt Alynn

It could be he thought you were strong enough in your sobriety that he thought he could talk about it to you & proberly said it absentmindedly

I think it's human nature to want what we can't have. Possibly, this is what Hubby is feeling?

Anyway, the fact that he's supporting your recovery despite his urge to drink is wonderful.

My husband was never a drinker like I was. And he's down to almost drinking nothing now that I've stopped. But I think since I've talked to him about my problem, he thinks about it more -- like he's just more aware.

Maybe because you stopped, your husband doesn't just take it casually anymore, like he'll have a beer or not or whatever -- he thinks of it as "a thing" and he wonders about stuff like getting smashed, where before if he thought about it at all, he would have passed it off so fast he wouldn't even notice it.

Did that make sense?

My husband did the exact same thing. When I was drinking I used to practically beg him to have a few with me. Maybe two or three times he actually has. In the last 2.5 years since I quit he has drank more than the previous 20 years with him combined, which probably equals a case of beer total.
After reading your post I asked him why because he has commented on his renewed interest since I quit. I got that standard shoulder shrug.
