Hi Mera for a healthy option protein wise id go with Turkey breast its leaner than chicken tastes identical and is so versatile herb & spice wise

I would serve it with west country green peas (the ones in the pod) & a fresh baby spinach leaf salad

Healthy & seriously tasty heres a link for other healthy turkey breast recipes

You can never have enough vegetables, especially colorful ones. I don't have any recipes at hand, but I always start with fresh vegetables now instead of meat and potatoes. Focusing on healthy recipes helped me a lot in my initial recovery by keeping my mind busy. The money I didn't spend on booze easily covers the additional cost.

Lately I've been enjoying cucumbers, tomatoes, basil, and a little mozzarella cheese all chopped up in a salad bowl. I drizzle a little olive oil and sprinkle some sea salt on top. You could add balsamic vinaigrette, too. So yummy! ☺️

I've been starting most days with a green smoothie. Easy way of getting tons of goodness in your system and you can play around with the ingredients to suit your taste.

For example this morning I had

An apple
Celery
Cucumber
Kale
A kiwi
Chunk of ginger

And it was lovely, but may put a first timer off due to its thickness or lack of fruit. Just have fun with it, stock up on fruit and veg and just chuck in whatever's in the fridge.

I am with TroubledJoe on this one. I have been enjoying my green smoothies too and playing around with different ingredients. It has been a great way to start the day.

Chicken soup with homemade broth. Super nutritious and versatile. Place a chicken in a stockpot and fill with water to cover by an inch. Add good quality salt, peppercorns, and an acid (apple cider vinegar or lemon juice is what I typically use). Bring to a boil than reduce to a simmer and cook approximately 2 hours. Occasionally skim the skummy gunk off the top. Remove the chicken and strain the liquid <--simple nutritious stock full of minerals and gelatin (great for gut healing)
To make the soup, I add some broth and shredded chicken with whatever vegetables I desire, (Most recently I used diced sweet peppers, onions, carrots, and spinach and it was fantastically delicious) herbs, and salt to taste. Simmer until veggies are soft. Sometimes I add extra stock and add rice.
I love the idea of this thread. I am excited to learn of others healthy and healing recipes! After years of alcohol abuse, my body is in definite need of good nutrition! Thank you M!!!

A lot of steamed veggies and ground poultry with low fat content. In this I put turmeric, ginger, black pepper, cayenne, cumin, onions, garlic, and some dried red chili pepper chopped up.
It's kind of boring after awhile but healthier.

Hi, Mera and other posters --

I made this recipe for a July 4th get-together. It always gets rave reviews ... so delicious!

THE ULTIMATE GREEK SALAD | Recipes | Nigella Lawson

When I was preparing it, I realized I was out of oregano and substituted dill. I'll make that a permanent substitution; it lent an extra nice flavor to the salad.

Mediterranean Quinoa Salad Recipe - Allrecipes.com

I make this quite often but substitute chick peas for the chicken and red bell peppers for the green.

Hi Meraviglioso,

Initially, one of the biggest times for me to drink was while cooking so I actually allowed myself to not cook for what I thought would be just a few weeks or a month or...? We ate a lot of raw veggies. Then parboiled sliced garlic became my new favorite thing. I ate at a great farm-to-table restaurant in Brooklyn where I experienced a broccoli side dish with what tasted like a 'just lightly salted' water with garlic slices, no oil, sauce. Deeee-licious. I will eat that water on anything.
