Tapering, for what it's worth...

Did 4 mini white wines tonight, 8.8 units, that's the least I've done since 22nd June according to my drink aware app.

I don't want a medal or anything but my husband said "why couldn't that have lasted u till midnight?"

I said "well I know I had it in an hour and a half but now I'm going to bed so I'll feel better in the morning than if I drank it slowly till midnight!"

I'm really just posting this so I can look back on it later and see my ridiculous alcoholic reasoning...

Night night x

That's why tapering is so hard. I'd set my oven timer for x amount of time. Goodness that was excruciating. Hope you get some good rest and wake up feeling ready to conquer this once and for all.

Tapering is difficult and not a popular method of achieving sobriety here, but it can work. I've done it. The thing is, you eventually have to quit entirely, you can't keep tapering down and down and drag it on forever. And when you reach that piont of complete abstinence it is still difficult and somewhat uncomfortable. BTW, I'm not necessarily speaking at you, but just a statement in general.

I used to drink my allotted amount in record time too. I even convinced myself it was better/healthier for me to do that (of course, it's not)

what would then usually happen is I'd convince myself my taper was 'too steep' or 'too much of an ask' for a heavy drinker like me and then buy extra booze for the next night...

you don't need to be Nostradamus to know where that took me back to...

So because I was in bed before 9pm, I then woke up at 2.30am and couldn't go back to sleep. Listened to some AA podcasts from New Zealand (they are excellent btw) then went downstairs to watch some TV, came back to bed at 5am and slept for an hour and a half.

Feel ok today, am glad I haven't drunk till blackout now for 2 days, god what has it come to that I'm proud of that?

I might go quiet on here for a while until this tapering is ready to stop but thanks for your support and I'll still be reading : )

Read chapter 3 in the Big Book about alcoholics controlling their drinking.
