12 weeks today!

Hi there,

Just wanted to post and congratulate myself on 12 weeks. Would never have imagined I'd be able to do this....... really never. It's a good place to be, not perfect (of course), my problems are all there, but I'm sober looking at them (sometimes when I can face it anyway). I'm doing good though.... 12 weeks sober is something.
I'm reading "The Zen of Recovery" at the moment and it's helping me to stay motivated, but there's also an uncomfortable and scary realisation that I'm going to have to work towards changes........

On another (or not) matter, can anybody explain to me what is meant by a "dry drunk"? thanks

Much good wishes and sober days to all of you.

12 weeks is awesome. It sounds like you're doing great.

I agree that change is uncomfortable but of course, it's part of recovery. We can't continue the way things were. And, change will make things better.

Dry drunk is a term I find horrible. It generally refers to someone who stops drinking and changes nothing. In other words, someone who is hanging on by their fingernails, rather than embracing change and recovery.

A dry drunk is a term in certain recovery communities that means you have quit drinking but still behave in dysfunctional ways.

Congratulations on 12 weeks! That's great.

I found that life was better but not perfect when I sobered up. And that was okay. I felt physically better and was better able to handle what was thrown at me.
