Do the math.

Does anyone ever think about how much money they wasted on alcohol over the years?

Annually I averaged about $1920! That's about $160/monthly. Wow. What a waste...puts it all into a brand new perspective.

Btw, today is Day 19.

I just did the math. With 19 days sober, you have saved approximately $101.33. Lol!

Oh, God yes. And if I ever sat down and put an official number on it, it would no doubt be staggering. If I succeed this time where I have failed in the past, my wallet will thank me.

Lol

I heard before one should put the money they would normally spend on alcohol in a piggy bank. If I did this years ago, I would finally take a cruise, never been on one. Thats now a new goal.

£10 a day for wine x 7 days = £70
£70 x 52 = £3,640
10 years = £36,400 = so many wasted days …

Now £3,640 a year better off more than a 10% pay rise I'm sober to enjoy it and now realise it was the time of my life i was wasting which was far more precious ..

Also my pension pot can now be substantially smaller because I won't be spending on all those outgoings so hopefully i can retire earlier too

For ten years I wasted over 20,000! Wow.

It's good you turned yours into a positive tho, all we can do from here on out, and like you said we'll be sober to enjoy good times ahead. That's awesome!

Somehow I don't find myself having any more $ than I did when I was drinking. I stress about it more, though. Like mecanix said, it's really the time I lost that gets to me. My 30's are gone with nothing to show for it. 10+ years just...gone. I'm like a fresh-faced 25 year old trying to figure out what the hell to do with the rest of my life. Except I'm in my 40's.

I was probably spending about $300 a month on booze, but then there were all the incidentals that went along with that: sports drinks (hangover hydration), delivery food, things bought because it seemed like a good idea in my alcoholic haze. Maybe $500 a month to keep my habit, all told.

So where does all this money go? Well, I've begun paying my back taxes because I was too useless to file for a number of years. Credit cards and student loans that I incurred while going back to school. Basically digging myself out of the financial hole that I'd dug for myself all those years. Adios, dinero! Anyway, feels good to be working my way out of it.

Mine is literally about $10,000/year. Just alcohol, I am not talking about the stupid things I purchased because I was drunk.

SDH ,
you'll get there .. I was still gambling when i gave up drinking so money disappeared quick …
Just think how great it will be when you get into the black and then maybe have a surplus ..

I try to have sober finances as it makes me feel secure and happy to not have casino finances which are up and down all the time .

Just like sobriety and alcohol, stay the course , keep on doing the right thing , it looks insurmountable taken as a whole from the beginning but when you look back it's amazing how far you've come if you just stick with it ..

We only get to live life one day at a time i found it best to deal with today in as sober way as possible and in doing that i found i laid a decent foundation for tomorrow .
