Hello everyone

I'm feeling like I can imagine many of you have (or currently do): scared, ashamed and really, really tired.

While I've often been able to stop drinking for weeks at a time, lately, the breaks are less often and my consumption is through the roof. I'm afraid one day the phrase 'death by misadventure' is going to follow my name and I'm terrified.

Welcome to SR Lucinda.

Your drinking sounds a lot like mine was,I could always stop, but staying stopped was the problem.

I made a decision to stay away from the first drink whatever happened,a day at a time.

I hope you stay with SR and make today the start of a new life.

Wishing you well.

You have the power to change stop this fear.

Do you want to stop drinking for good?

I know others that have done the big session/binge, then swear off drink for 2 weeks to prove they don't have a problem, then go back to drinking because they have done their time!!

I sort of understand that, but to me it just sounds like torture.

When I realised that drink in any amount just made me unhappy, it was almost a relief to stop.
There was no more self monitoring.
No more setting rules about how much I could drink a night, then getting cross when I exceeded it.
No more ridiculous self enforced rules - like only drinking thursday - sunday or no spirits mid week or 2 glasses of wine a night and no more.

Honestly for me stopping full stop was best the way forward.

I wish you the best and hope you stick around here.

In the early days all I wanted and all I strived for was to go to bed sober at night.

Nice clean sheets, wake up feeling clean and rested. Ahhhhhhh.

Thank you to everyone for the welcome. A little empathy goes a long way right now I find.

My overwhelming feeling right now is loneliness, so this helps. Thank you.

Good news is you never have to feel this way again. One day at a time, Lucinda. Admitting you have a problem and asking for help is a big step, it shows you're on the right path
