Day 3
Day three of jumping on the wagon again! I'm 28 year old male, married and father of 2 legendary boys. Track record of getting in trouble with alcohol since 15. Didn't REALLY start drinking until 21. 4 years ago my best friend OD on heroin and the last memory I had of him was he asked me if I could go a day without beer. That sent me on my first sober adventure. I got 228 days(but who's counting). Pretty much haven't had more than 20 or so days since. A couple here a couple there. The anxiety from alcohol got to the point recently that I was very much aware that it's time to get sober. Shakes at work, anxiety, thinking about beer after work while at work etc. towards the end drinking 12-14 beers a night. I got the stomach flu 3 days ago and figured this is as good as time as any to give it a go. Day 2 felt good no shakes just a bit sweaty and no sleep. Felt pretty killer all day today until now. I've quit before and know I don't really get much withdrawal other than anxiety and night sweats. It all just hit me tonight however. Tight chest, a bit dizzy and a little out of it. I know I need to keep my eyes on the prize as I WILL be the man I want my boys to be. I've had a tall boy in my fridge and literally don't throw it away to simply curse at it when I get water. Been to AA and not a fan, figured I'd see what you cool soldiers are going through and any encouraging words. Either way, I'm not caving. Suck it bud light, success and happiness are the only thing I see in my future.

Welcome James!
Day 9 here. So I don't have any shining words of wisdom. But this place is amazing. I would recommend getting some face to face support of some kind though. I chose AA....wasn't a huge fan myself at first....but i know there are plenty of other programs out there. For me personally. ...i dont think I could have stayed sober a week without it.

Welcome to SR, JamesCali! There is a ton of great wisdom and support to be found here. Hope you'll make yourself at home and post often! SR has been the cornerstone of my recovery this time.
I highly suggest joining in on the Class of June 2015 thread that is found on this same forum. It's a great way to learn from and help others who are also in early recovery.

Hello:
Wanting to be the mom I want to be really helped me get sober.
If you aren't into AA you can try other methods, AVRT, SMART... You can research around and find other tools. I like to use concepts from different methods, remember that it has to be what works for you and you have to figure out what that is.
SR has been a life changer for me. I hope it does the same for you. I have learned soooo much, and knowledge is power!

Love the last line "Suck it bud light, success and happiness are the only thing I see in my future."

hi James, good for you. Discipline and determination with get you to where you want to go. Also, you've got 2 little ones who probably idolize you no matter what. I'm sure you want to be the best father you can be, and alcohol will only get in the way of that which I'm sure you've figured out. I wish you the very best. Be the man.
