'Be Yourself'
'Be Yourself'
I'l get this out of the way first, I like this one. It's a soulful jam
Somebody said to me the other day; "be who you want to be." It's the same thing I've heard a few times over the years also.
I appreciate the sentiment. But my initial reaction was this: "be who I want, or be who I am?" and then that got me thinking.
It's too easy to pretend you are someone you are not. I think most recovery alcoholics will relate to this. But being yourself?
Now that is difficult. Even when everything was going good for me, I had lot's of personal issues. They were signs of trauma.
So the question is; which is the better idea here. Either trying to be anyone that you want, or just plain trying to be yourself?
Surely the latter would be a good start, even to achieve the former. I was not allowed to be myself when I was younger, also.
