Detaching with Love...
...is much harder than it sounds! We did an intervention on my mom a couple weeks ago. It went better than I expected, she did 3 days of detox, and is home now and says she's not drinking. But she's no longer willing to go to treatment (inpatient or out) and is telling me tonight that it's because her insurance won't cover it. I should have just changed the subject, but instead I said that I don't agree with her, that yes it will cover some programs and that I confirmed that with the insurance companies themselves. She blew up at me, said some nasty words to me, and hung up. I know she is doing that because I'm calling her bluff on why she isn't going to treatment.
I can't manage her sobriety and I need to accept that sobriety and recovery is up to her now. She supposedly is at an AA meeting, so I hope that's true! For now I need to go no contact for a few days / weeks and hope she stays sober in the meantime....let it go!
