Trying to stop the merry-go-round.

After almost 5 years of sobriety and healthy living i have been binge drinking regularly since February - I will sometimes go more than 2 weeks without touching a beer but then the binges will be on and off for just as long -I know i must abstain because 1 leads to 100 every time . everybody around me drinks and because of economical reasons i am unable to remove my self from here . But i have been sober now for 2 days and feel guilt and anxiety but i know it will pass - thank you for letting me speak

Welcome and I'm glad you posted.

You know that you have 5 years of sobriety and you can do this again. It's often hard to get back at it, but you can do it. And, yes, you know the guilt and anxiety will pass. Good for you for 2 days sober!

Welcome!!!

I fell down in my first year of sobriety... Came back after 1.5 year binge and am so grateful to be sober.

You can do it.

Welcome to SR, I only have 22 days, but my longest stretches of sobriety were during pregnancy, other than that 90 days. I am just curious what triggered you to start drinking again after five years. I hope to have that much sober time in about 4 years and 11 months. :-)

Welcome Louisiana. You found a great community. This family is the only source of recovery I have and as long as you put the work in, you can get your life back.

Early on, I found it helpful to read as many old posts and be active posting yourself. Any time you feel like you are going to cave, jump on SR... there's always someone here to offer support 24/7.

You can do this.

Welcome

My trigger was - I was experiencing a great deal of stress from Nov. 2014 -Jan2015-- during this time period i was having trouble sleeping so one night i decided that maybe a couple of drinks would help me sleep -i ended up drinking till i got sick and this started it all back over again- I made a choice to drink i now realize that as i am typing-thank you for asking.

Welcome to SR, louisiana!

I highly suggest joining the Class of June 2015 thread on this same forum. It's a great way to get support from and also help others who are in early recovery just like you.

Glad you're here with us!
Thank you for the thread.........

What did you do to stay sober other than not drink for five years?? Did you find that you had set your mind at a point where you knew you'd drink again, or was it more of grab and go scenario??

Keep coming back

I embarrassed myself on a camping trip put on by my employer -that was the first time i ever blacked out but did not pass out , i almost quit my job so i didn't have to face them -some of them recorded it on cell phones -the humiliation was the motivation to get sober-and i honestly thought i was not an alcoholic cuz i had quit. I think i never really faced that but i am an alcoholic -and i feel like im being honest with myself now -and yes i think somewhere in the back of my mind i thought i would drink again .
