Hi all, have found this site by accident, and really feel I need to hear from others with this awful problem with alcohol dependence, I am a mother of 5 although my 3 daughters and son from my marriage are grown, I have a 5 year old from another relationship. I don't want to put my child through a nightmare, and I want to stop living in hell.

Welcome L&L. You stumbled on a great community with a ton of support. It helped me early on to read as many older posts as I could and stay active here by posting yourself.

You can beat this. Lean on us as much as you need.

Hi there and welcome, how about trying to go sober for 24 hours, give it all you've got........ see how you go and how you feel. Hopefully you'll be so pleased you did it, you might try another 24.

Good luck x

This site got me out of the awful cycle of drink, sleep, regret, work.
I was in this cycle for a number of years and it made me unhappy and I thought there must be more to life.

I have not drunk alcohol for over 3 years.
Alcohol caused me a lot of unhappiness and self hate.
I thought it was my friend and it was never my friend.

I would never go back to how I was.
I come here everyday and read and post.
I get homesick if I don't visit.
I have learnt so much about alcohol and all the misery it can bring.
There are a number of very wise and very kind people here who can empathise and understand.

I wish you the best xx

Welcome to the forum. It's full of friendly people with great advice and, along with AA, has kept me sober for 15 months

You can do this. What is your plan for staying sober tomorrow (today now I suppose!!) Think about what might trigger you and how you can avoid it. Think about things that make you feel safe; calm; and happy. Try to avoid Hunger; Anger; Lonliness; being Tired (HALT) - these all weaken our resolve and invite our alcoholic voices to start blathering on and trying to run the show.

Post as many questions as you like, and let us know how you're getting on x
