racing anxiety. at work

Day 6, mercifully.
Very positive aa meet last night

Just racing anxiety at work- teaching, about to run big meeting and try and pass on some targets to students. Quite intimidated by some of them - hard work to manage all their behaviours. Pretty shaky. Anyone else manage their anxiety? Deep breathing? Fake it to make it.?

It's perfectly normal for certain events to cause anxiety. Big, important meetings are stressors, for sure. Don't get spun up into a panic. And don't be afraid to call a break and take a breather to gather yourself.

Try and break the tasks down to smaller pieces and work on one at a time. Early sobriety can be very anxiety filled, and stressful situations don't help. Watch the caffeine too...it can make things worse than they need be.

Your on day 6, you will feel better in a few days. The anxiety will slowly lessen over the next few months, just don't get tricked back into drinking or it all goes away.

I agree with sva Jimi. You are on 6 days so it will reduce over time.

Congratulations on quitting, great job

Congrats on day 6! That's a big accomplishment.

Like others have said your mind will calm down. Your brain chemistry has to get back to a homeostatic state without the alcohol. It will get better as the days go by.

I found meditation and going for walks to be helpful.

I've always been an anxious person but alcohol made it unbearable. I'm about 4 weeks sober and my anxiety is very minimal. I agree with the others it will most likely subside with time. Deep breathing helps. Also, meditating once a day for 20 min is really helpful . I've found I (unintentionally) start to use the meditation techniques during situations that cause high anxiety. The one I used was called - body scan

Me to

I work at a school so know the pressures and having a full blown anxiety panic attack in front of students with nowhere to run to is frightening x I'm on day 5 having terrible anxiety and I've run out of my tablets which is making things worse xx

Thanks to everyone for your very supportive posts. I blustered through it with a modicum of humour. Thankfully. I had got some.prep done.
Hard though. The trembling!

I use to meditate a lot, a practice that's sadly lapsed so I'll get back to it

Suzzi I feel for you. Day 5 is fantastic. I try to work with HALT as I'm constantly in those states, especially. After abday in education.Teachings been a grind for me and I'm flat warn out trying to accommodate all the students problems.
"why can't you be normal" I want to scream. Ha. Coming from me!
