anxiety

Hi I am new to sober recovery I am a long time binge drinker , Friday, Sat, Sun, and holidays , if I did not work 2 jobs I would probably be a daily communicant of John Barleycorn . I am looking for help to curb my anxiety. Can anyone help me? Thank you

I was a weekend binge drinker up until my late 20's. At this point, my hangovers extended into the week and my anxiety was through the roof whenever I wasn't drinking. So I started drinking everyday to combat the anxiety. Soon I was a full blown alcoholic as I was constantly trying to medicate the anxiety.

The only solution is to stop drinking. My anxiety was all driven by the alcohol. I realized it too late unfortunately

I was exactly the same as Wastinglife. The alcohol just temporarily makes the anxiety better but the next day its worse and carries on that way...

Hi.
When I finally realized alcohol is not a health drink and raises all kinds of hell within our body I got sober after 2 years of very heavy drinking. Low and behold my anxiety began to slowly be reduced to not being noticeable.

BE WELL

Alcohol makes anxiety 100% worse - drinking becomes a vicious, crazy cycle. Sobriety brings relief to alcohol induced anxiety.

Welcome bunchie. Some anxiety is a normal part of life, but for many of us drinking makes it much, much worse than it need be. It's certainly possible that you have an anxiety issue that would need psychologial treatment, but you won't know until you stop drinking. Even if you do, quitting the booze should help quite a bit.

What ultimately got me to quit was the unbearable anxiety brought on by drinking. Being boozed up seemed to keep it at bay but when it wore off it came back tenfold.

Sober since January, it took a while but the anxiety is so much more under control now I wish I could have stoped sooner. I wasted so many years in the booze fog.

I had the same problem, with sober time anxiety reduces by a lot.
Go to the gym for 30 minutes a day it will change your life

I drank to medicate anxiety and depression and it made me more anxious and depressed.

Both are a lot better now that I'm sober.
