Today is the starting point

Good morning folks. Its taken me a long time to understand and admit that I have a problem. Today is day one. I am not sure what to expect or what will come my way but I'm going to give it a shot. I have some fears about what coming. Thank you to everyone that replied to my first thread last night on Sober Recovery. It helped me to start today.

Good choice Ben. Stick around and post your progress and challenges. Many people around here are currently or have been exactly where you are. You can do this.

GentleBen, good for you!

SR is a great place to learn how to leave alcohol behind and cultivate a sober life.

Wishing you the best!

Hi Ben, I found it really helpful to get and stay active here, whether I wanted to or not. If you're thinking of drinking, I'd suggest reaching out here first. Tell people you're struggling, what's going on and just ask.

You'll do ok. Hang in there. It's a big step but it's doable.

Good morning Ben, and congratulations on your decision. Always remember that even though the initial part of WD's is never fun, there are much better times not far over the horizon.

As has been mentioned, there is always someone here on SR if you need to vent/talk/ask questions. Don't rule out seeking local support to if you feel you might need it...being around others in the same situation is always comforting. And of course if you have any medical concerns contact or see your doctor to stay on the safe side.

I second the idea to post on here as often and as detailed as possible. Building up accountability to others and honesty to myself have been huge stepping stones in my recovery from this terrible addiction.

Wishing you the best today!

You've made a smart decision. Getting sober is the best thing I've ever done for myself.

Great job and good decision GB. Best decision I ever made for myself also.

You can do this. It helped me tremendously to stay close to SR very early on. Be as active as you can and read as much as you can; at least that helped me.

This community is a great source for support and advise. What ever obstacle you encounter on your journey, chances are someone here has been there and can help you through.

Just make sure to give us a chance if you are feeling weak. Post when you are feeling strong but also if your AV is hitting hard.

Trust me, you won't regret this decision. The outcome is so worth the effort you will put in.

Be kind to yourself. If it gets a bit much, tell yourself - I will not drink now.

Best of luck.

You can do this Ben. There is so much meaningful life outside of drinking that you are going to discover.
