Weddings this year think ill avoid

Hi all,

I have 2 weddings this yesr and i dont think ill go. Being around lots of free booz and people /emotions just sounds like a stressful bad idea right now. Im 5 months 3 weeks sober. One of them is my so called best mate who overlooked me for best man and chose my youngest brother. Im hurt and angry about it. Anyone else avoided boozy parties and other social events in early recovery? Im guessing I need at least a year under the bridge before im up for it.

I think the time varies for everyone but I knew I wanted to stay sober no matter what after as few months...it was around a year though before I started going back to pubs etc (music related)

That's where i fell off the wagon after 2.5 years sobriety, at a wedding, I think weddings are extra hard because there's probably a whole lot of mentally elevated people that you are familiar with and you want to fit in.

I think the resentment you feel about the best man thing is a bigger threat to your sobriety than the actual wedding. I find my emotions to be more detrimental than a social situation. But that could just be me. Do what's right for you.
