meditation

I've mentioned in various discussions that I've found meditation to be an effective tool for dealing with a partner's addiction as well as improving my own mental state in general.

The last few times my partner has gone on a drunken rampage (middle of the night, three kids down the hall, having to get up in the morning to go to work, knowing that I can't argue/defend myself/walk away), I meditate, simply by focusing on my breathing while giving him occasional verbal reassurance that I hear him. It cuts his craziness in half when I "go all zen on him" and it makes me feel world's better.

Here's an article from my teacher that might be helpful to those who are interested: How To Rest Your Mind. ~ Rose Taylor Goldfield | elephant journal
