What do you do to cheer yourself up?

Is there a friend or family member you call that always makes you feel better after talking to?

Play fetch with your dog(s)?

Eat an indulgence food like ice cream?

It's thunder & lightening a little right now, so I'm hoping it starts raining. Walks in the rain are always soothing.

Maybe some music?

Maybe cut red meat out of the diet, eh? I think that's maybe a little too heavy of a food for the mind.

There's SSRIs I guess, but I'm pretty averse to putting drugs into my body. I'm the type that doesn't even take aspirin.

What do you do during your down days?

Play with my cats, eat chocolate ice cream, take a walk in the woods. To an extent, I just go with my moods. Tomorrow is another day.

I play with the laser toy with my cats and also walk my dogs. Interacting with my dogs and cats always cheers me up.

Alone: go for a walk or run somewhere nice, yoga, read a good book, listen to music, get some work done, eat a delicious meal (no cutting out red meat for me either!).

Calling a close friend or lover also works well usually, although right now I don't really have anyone I would be comfortable calling anytime just because I'm feeling down. Doing productive things (that I can see the result of relatively quickly) also helps. Posting here on SR also.

I don't typically tend to feel down long except in more serious depressed periods that would have definitely required professional help, which I did not get at the time but would do now with no hesitation if needed.

Planning a fun activity to see something new and interesting can also lift me up... going to a museum or art gallery, for example, can be endlessly therapeutic and distracting for me. Anything that flips my attention outward.

Buying plants and flowers on sale to
fill in my garden in my backyard. All
those beautiful blooms and vibrant
colors cheer me up tremendously.

Planting flowers, bushes, plants is
definitely good healthy theraphy
while living life in recovery.

My backyard is my sanctuary away
from lifes hustle and bustle, challenges,
struggles, escape, to have peace and
serenity while remaining sober a day
at a time.

I also have bird feeders scattered in
my yard to feed our fine feathered
friends. To see so many different
varieties of birds with the binoculars
up close and personal is awesome.

Listen, learn, absorb and apply some
sort of recovery program into your
everyday life to enjoy all those wonderful
gifts right there in our backyards.

I love big thunder and lightning storms. That would cheer me right up.
The smell of rain is pretty uplifting too.
If i'm feeling down I hang out with my potbelly pig. He is quite the personalty and never fails to cheer me up.(Don't go out and get a potbelly pig)

I'm sure the neighbours would love me if I did that.

I'm back to normal again now. I know full well how much my diet affects me, so not sure why I thought a rib-eye with a poutine of all things was a good idea for dinner last night.

For me its good food, always cheers me up! I am also fortunate to be just a few minutes away from the sea. A nice walk works wonders, soaking up the spring sun and cool breeze!
