Hi, I am 52 years old and want to change my ways. I once again have gotten lost in alcohol. Been to rehab 2 times. I am what they call a functioning drunk. I am so unhappy and tired all the time.....

Welcome Timelost!

We're a great source of inspiration and information, so read around and post often. SoberRecovery is like any program--it works if you work it!

Thanks, having a bit of trouble figuring out the ins and outs of this site. In need of support and encouragement, having gone through this before...I know it's me that needs to make the change not anyone else. In search of support from others that understand alcoholism.

This is a good place to start: http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...at-we-did.html

Have you tried recovery programs outside of rehab? AA?

I needed to do things way differently in order to stay sober. For the first three months, I went to an AA meeting every night at drinking time.

Yes I have been to many AA meetings in the past. I recover for a while then slip back into the same ugly routine....then I hate myself every day for it.

Did you work the steps with a sponsor? Did you do any service work?

I did do the steps , yes and I did service within my main AA community. I guess I'm just weak....I keep backsliding. I wish I had more self control and followed through with my true intentions....

Have you had long periods of sobriety while using AA? If you are comfortable with AA you might consider supplementing it with some other tools you can find at the link I posted earlier.

There are also other recovery groups that may be available in your area. There is information in that link regarding these groups as well.

But you will certainly find support on this site from people who have used a lot of different methods and tools for sobriety.

You can do it.

Thank you buk1000, I have had over a year of total sobriety but always start back with ahhh I can have one or two beers....so on and so on. The only thing I have learned and stuck to is that I can't drink hard alcohol....but now, I have learned drinking beer on a daily basis is just as bad, I just don't get sloppy and ugly. Just don't care about things including myself. Which is just the same.
I will visit the link you provided me and I thank you.
