Hi,
my name is Sorrel & I am on my second day (for the numerous time...)of trying to quit drinking.
The longest i've gone is 14 days but am determined to keep trying.
I thought i could do it alone, but now realise i can't.
I'd like to be able to give & recieve encouragement & hope for an alcohol free future. I am 44 yrs of age.
I look forward to meeting fellow members.
All the best
Sorrel.

Hi Sorrel, and welcome to SoberRecovery!
My name's Dan, I'm 44 as well.
Hoping it's a sunny morning for you in Sydney.
Here in Northern Canada, it's a beautiful half Moon tonight!
Good on you for two days with no drink. It gets easier.
Glad you're here

There's no rush to respond Sorrel!
I pretty much bottomed out last November.
Did residential rehab in January of this year. Aside from a couple matinis on St-Patricks day, that's how long it's been.
I started thinking I had enough when I first contacted AA in May of last year though.
But it took a while longer to end a thirty year cycle.
I blame my Irish ancestry for resisting so long

Thanks for the welcome Anna,
I just had to restart my comp, it play's up from time to time.
I was reading some of the member stories & found then both sad & encouraging.
It's funny how you think your the only one until you read about others.
I'm glad i am not alone with me addiction anymore.
Like you Dan I'm part Irish + german, english... I guess their all big drinking nations!!!
No wonder i love a scooner glass ha ha.

Hi sorrel, pleased to meet you, and a big welcome to soberrecovery, the gang here is the best. My name is Denise, I'm 48, and a bit to partial to beer, but SICK of it, just seeing that word beer now, ugh.
Yep I figured I could do it alone to, smarty pants me, well guess what nope nope nope, no go, even as bullheaded as I am. It's a biggy to conquer that's for sure, and I'm wishing you all the best in your recovery, and the help you chose to stop this, heck we're getting to old for this non sense aren't we?

I also only drink beer, but have been drinking since 12 yrs of age & me problem is i binge drink...
One is never enough & nor is a dozen... So i know it's all or nothing & i'm opting for nothing. At least that's my goal.

Hi Sorrel and Welcome. I am new as well. I finally got the nerve to post last night after finding the sight a few days ago. Like many, I have tried to stop/cut down/make rules about drinking. I have proven over and over that I can't. It has gotten progressively worse over the years and being 40 I just feel it is time to be brave, fess up and move on. I know this will not be easy but I will give it my best shot. Welcome! Jalyn
Hi Sorrel, Welcom on board. In tests, Scientists have shown that SR visitors are 10 times more likely to succeed (SOURCE - Deg's Book of B******s) well, we have to make our own luck, don't we.
The one day at a time thing is so real. It feels like you can't do it but you can and every day it gets a little bit easier. For maybe two months I stopped my car in the pub carpark on the way home from work most days, and sat there contemplating. i had thought in advance though, on day two of soberness, i had already been into the local to tell everyone i'd not be back. I even told Fran, Landlady NOT to serve me if i came in. If I hadn't done that i would not have succeeded this far.
You can do this Sorrel. Fame Glory, and unlimited Celestial Virgins await (see aforementioned volume for details).
Time to burn some bridges.
Deg.
