What is wrong with me?

Hi all me again i am not sure why i am asking this question cos i am probably the only person who can answer it. I just dont understand why i am drinking so much. I want to stop but i just cant. Its getting worse cos now i get the shakes when i havent had a drink. I am always thinking about getting the next bottle of vodka. I am such a failure.

(tizzkins)))); it can be incredibly difficult especially in the beginning (until we take that true leap of faith and the real plunge into sobriety).

Have you spoken with your doctor; you may need a medically supervised detox.

I think Leigh's right Tizzkins. Seeing your Dr would be a good first step?
They may have other suggestions for you too?

Hi tizzkins. There isn't anything wrong with you. You're just an alcoholic.

I hope you decide to stop drinking if it's affecting your health in a bad way.

Why don't you explain a bit about yourself and people here can suggest different quit options to you (if you want to quit).

Hi.
I and many feel/felt the same and the reason for me is I’m an alcoholic and cannot drink one day at a time in a row in safety. When we have a drink it creates a compulsion to have more and more, which is the reason for not having 1 drink.

It helps a lot by reading a lot of posts here and perhaps attending meetings where a bunch of alcoholics go to get and stay sober, AA.

It’s strongly suggested to get medical attention because in a lot of cases just stopping can be dangerous for our system.

BE WELL

I think first thing ya should do is throw out the arse kikin machine.
You're NOT a failure!
Personally I think the answer to you're question of what's wrong with ya is
You're an alcoholic. Its what alcoholics do. We tend to not be able to control of alcohol intake. Cant stop once we start.
IMO a more important question(s) for ya to answer is
Do you want to stop drinking?
Are you willing to do whatever is necessary to stop?
Willing to do whatever is necessary to stop?
Willing to go to ANY lengths?
Willing to get into action and put in the footwork to get and stay sober?

You're not a failure. Just sick. But there IS a solution.

You can, but you have to apply a solution that works. It may require medical supervision in the beginning, to detox. And after that it takes a lot of work to stay sober.

Don't worry about the answer to "why do I drink," answer this, "Why am I afraid to deal with my alcoholism straight on?"

There is nothing wrong with your characters Tizzikins (and Zenchaser) We share the same well known addiction of alcoholism. I'm 55, it took me way too long to stop because it is, on one level, hard but try to focus on the things that are not hard like waking up without a hangover and having the money you spend on drink each week/month in you account

You are both determined to quit - I see your avatars regularly. I'm sure that is just a question of time before you both find what works for you. Only time you fail is when you stop trying

Alcohol is causing you problems; negative consequences. You know you should stop. You want to stop. You know that's the right answer. But at the same time you feel irresistibly drawn to drinking again. When you're not drinking all you can think about is when you can get your next drink.

There's a couple of thousand folks here at SR who know exactly what that's like. It's called addiction.

You can beat it, many of us have. We did it by trying everything we could until something worked, not by bemoaning our helplessness.

Welcome to the fight of your life. How can we help?

addiction is it's own reason. it affects good people. It's a hard thing to break free of, but it can be done
