Its fight night and I am going

I can't help myself tonight the biggest fight in decades is happening and I am going to go to the casino. Any tips or suggestions welcome, going to the belly of the beast, but I am a huge boxing fan.

I think I will be ok, I told the friends I am going with that I am only going for the main event. And I won't be drinking or gambling and leaving as soon as the fight is over.

Before the fight I am going to AA meeting. Yes, I am posting right now because I am nervous, but I think I will be ok. The wife wants me to stay home.

I'll be watching it on the couch with some friends.

Good luck. Don't waver from your stated plan.

I think it's a pretty awful idea recovery wise J, considering you have a gambling problem along with an alcohol problem.

Might be a bit early Jeremy, be careful and protective of your recovery!!

There's a few of us here on SR watching it, we even have a thread in the Cafe if you think it's too much to attend!!

I will not sugar coat it. I think that is a horrible idea. You are risking it all for something that you want not something you need. You are betting everything on one roll of the dice

Just my opinion.

Oh, wow. Definitely a bad idea if you have a gambling problem.

If you absolutely have to go, don't take a wallet or cash. But I'd try to find somebody who is watching the fight in their home.

One other thing to consider. You know my story. I don't have a daughter to lose you do. To take a huge necessary risk that you will lose her forever is beyond me.

Jeremy, you've made some progress. You noted you're nervous. Shouldn't that be telling you something?

The risk is too high. Your wife is correct in wanting you to forego it. Please listen to her.

MIrecovery brought me back to reality, this is about my daughter. I need to get my daughter back, I will be reluctantly skipping tonight. Thats the setback of living in Nevada every casino is hyping this fight, can't lie I already bet a little on pacman, but I want my daughter back.

I disagree. This is about you staying sober. The rest of your life will fix itself if you remain sober. You will lose it all including your life if take that first drink.

I guard my sobriety like my life depended on it because it does

I know it has been said before but this is a awful idea, your family comes first. The fight can be watched from anywhere, you don't need to be at a casino. Don't choose a boxing match over your health, wellbeing and family.

Glad you've made a wise choice to stay home. Betting on the fight in itself is a pretty clear sign that you were already headed in the wrong direction. I'd still make that AA meeting too for good measure.

Ah so you will be skipping it now, that is a good plan. I hope maybe you can watch somewhere more "safe".?

I walk the walk and you have to learn. The simplest piece of wisdom I have ever heard is to look at life through this lense, Is my intended action going to move me toward or away from sobriety?

If the answer is away I better reconsider my action. I have been sober for awhile and I still use this simple exercise. Every once in a while I will consider doing things that move me away but I will have a very good reason for doing so and have a safety net in place before I do.

Seems that alone would be a good reason not to go ?

A wise old man used to tell me, "you don't know what you have until the well runs dry."

LOL, the wife is like you twit, whether you watch or not isn't going to change the outcome. I have money on Pacman she told me I hope Mayweather wins, and you're stupid. She said to have me internet friends have me watch a movie with her and to grow up. LOL, we joke with each other often. FYI she has 70 plus days sober and is rocking it in Rehab.

I'm really glad you decided not to go. I know how difficult it is overcome the urge to be part of "the action" in the beginning. But it's our addictive minds trying to draw us closer to the flame, and it takes dedicated action to stay on the straight and narrow.

Very proud of you.
