Feeling Lonely and Depressed Tonight

I feel stuck in this ridiculous rut of not being able to do anything in public because I can't stop drinking when I'm around it. On top of everything I have noticed I'm withdrawing from benzos because I took them on and off for over a year now to get off of alcohol.

I'm just depressed today. I shouldn't be. I am not motivated to work out when I usually am hardcore into it. I don't know why I'm off my game.

Stay positive. It will pass. Everyday sober is a step toward feeling normal. Just hang in there.

I don't know why I'm so down. I'm just sitting here sad. Never had that happen before after sobering up.

I have had 2 days where I felt hopeless since being sober. Alcohol is hard to come off of, but add Benzo withdraw to that and it makes it twice as hard. But as your body gets rid it you will feel better. Try to keep your head up.

Withdrawals tend to get worse each time, perhaps why you are noticing the new symptoms. They are all temporary though. Have you considered counseling? I finally got some to help with my underlying anxiety and OCD and its really starting to help.

WD's definitley suck. The good news is they are 100% preventable, have you made any decisions about what you might do differently this time?

Hi Justin. You have been trying to sober up for a long time. As Scott suggested, maybe you should seek out the help of an addiction counselor. I know how hard it is. I finally got a really good therapist and it has really made a difference in my recovery.

justinJustQuit, I'll be 5 years sober in July and have had several bouts of depression. I don't know why it happens, but please do your workouts to stay in synch. I study Win32 and C++, and even though I didn't feel like it I got my menu bar, the drop down menu, and the OpenFile() working right finally tonite. If I were drinking it would all be worse, rootin for ya.

Only a strong heart can truly be broken, Justin. And when it does break, it reliably invites loneliness, often in great measure. Of all the things we can identify with, the heartbreak of loneliness is perhaps the most exquisite and the most powerful. And yet we endure.

When you feel hopeless, bear in mind that there are many of us who are willing to be hopeful for you.

With you in spirit, justin. You're not alone. Keep on saying no to that first drink, if you are out in those situations that make you want to pick it up. (I've been there too, still am, still spending most time at home.) The first drink is the easiest one to say no to. Play the tape through. I'd be willing to bet the anxiety and depression we both feel will be way worse if we have that first drink... and then of course, all the drinks that follow. It's a hard road. Everyone one above me gives great advice. We're here for you. xo
