is communion a relapse?
Is a preacher passing out real wine?
If a thimble full of wine is a trigger, it could bring a relapse. I wouldn't call it a relapse in and of it self.
Only place I personally have seen real wine used... a Catholic wedding and if it would be a problem, they could ask for grape jiuce like I see others use in replacement of real wine. Reason for the juice...still a fruit of the vine but no alcohol in concern for any who may find it a trigger.

been wondering the same thing...
...as my church (Episcopal) uses real wine. I usually have them intinct the wafer, so basically they barely dip it into the wine. I can't stand the taste of the wine they use...but it is the blood of you know who -- don't think He would hurt me!

In my opinion a relapse would be drinking to the point that you feel the effect. A sip of communion wine is no more a relapse than gargling with Listerine, eating food that has been cooked with wine, or taking cold medicine per the label directions.

If you truly believe, then the wine is turned to blood.....so it isn't wine any more. On the other hand, I consider myself a true Catholic, and having a taste at communion made me want more ASAP.
Now, I trust but don't tempt. I skip the wine at communion and I'm sure God love me just as much as the next guy in line who partakes of the wine.
I don't think you have to count that any more than I have to count a dessert I had the other day that happend to be made with a rum sauce...but still...if I know ahead of time something has alcohol I avoid it.
Something may not reach the level of counting against your sobriety, but it can be an unsafe situation in which to place yourself. I hope that helps.
