It's not a good idea. Non-alcoholic beer tastes like crap and my understanding is that it still has a miniscule amount of alcohol in it.

Mostly I don't like it because it is too similar to real drinking--you are still holding a beer bottle or drinking it out of a beer glass or whatever. That can play tricks with your mind and cause you to drink real beer. I vote 'NO' to fake beer.

different people have different opinions MJ ,

For me they are too close to drinking , the ritual of drinking for comfort .

I find fizzy water more thirst quenching , rather than an insipid copy of something that caused me years of misery .

It's also easy to slip from non alcoholic to low alcoholic especially if someone who doesn't have a drink issue is in charge of drinks .

My experience is they're a bad idea - they bought be back to 'real alcohol' because, while I was observing all the little rituals of my drinking behaviour, I had no buzz.

That gnawed at me until I drank the real stuff again.

For me why limit ourselves back to the taste of beer, there are soo many new exciting flavours to try, juices, teas, mock tails, the choices are endless, I just can't understand passing up all that opportunity!!

Brilliant responses i was thinking that to no to non alcoholic beer. In a way were just using the bottle as a prop which is tricking the mind to want real alcohol. So i think over the answer is steer clear.

i was just thinking of a drink when i went out socially at the moment its sparkling water with lemon because i find fizzy drinks so bloating....just trying to change it up lol

Terrible idea. Too much like regular drinking. Much better tasting things than beer anyways.

One 6 pack of Beck's Blue lasted 3 days for me when I once had one month sober.

Two weeks later, I was back on the Smirnoff, drinking it alone.

It's like quitting smoking cannabis, but starting to smoke cigarettes because they don't get you stoned.

My advice would be to go to the supermarket and stock up on various soft-drinks.

You could treat yourself to some snacks too!

I'll be the contrarian and admit I like an occasional NA beer when I'm in a bar with people. I don't have any issues with it.

Before I recovered the desire / temptation periodically returned, I avoided foods that had any amounts of alcohol beyond what was normal. In other words, many foods have trace amounts of alcohol, e.g. bread, orange juice, etc.

When I recovered, it involved a psychic change where the fear of desire / temptation returning no longer exist, and I was set free to experience Near Beer, O'doul's, but I don't particulatly like it, haven't had any that tasted like real beer. Haagen-Dazs Rum Raisin ice cream, ingredients… cream, skim milk, rum raisins (raisins, sugar, water, rum), sugar, egg yolks, rum. Martinelli’s Sparking Cider tastes like champagne and the sensation to my pallet / throat feels like champagne. Vanilla is 35% alcohol (70 proof) and I use it to make my organic coffee creamer every morning.

BTW, Recovered means for ME to be sober, recovery is abstinence hopefully on the path of sobriety.

Tough one.. Most of the NA beers ave 0.05% alcohol in them except Cobra which is 0%. I have tried them & to be honest I thought I would be ok but....the BIG but, I was back on the Smirnoff a few weeks later...Whether it is related or not I don't know but I'm not going to chance it again.. I have the same problem with coffee!!!!

It's not about the alcohol content for me at all.

I was still knee deep in old behaviours, and didn't even realise it.

As a former beer drinker it ticked all the boxes for me, and opens the door to old behaviour and old thought patterns.

It's whatever you need to do and what works with you.
I tried them a few weeks back. I didn't mind them.
Over the last month I've been drinking a few bottles of ginger beer everyday. On top of addiction / disease / whatever I have a habit of playing on the laptop and drinking. Drinking a substitute for me keeps my mind of alcohol - for some it may be opposite.
TAKE CARE - most non alcoholic beers have .5% of alcohol or less. Only try true zero alcohol types

I wouldn't do it. They usually taste like crap anyways, and it would just trigger my brain into old drinking thoughts/habits.
