New here. Been conscious I should quit for years. Just can't face up to the fact that I can't do what a lot of other people do for fun. Hungover so won't right much right now. But glad to be here.

Welcome TheLastHangover. It doesn't seem like it right now,but you will find that only the minority of people get drunk "to have fun". Most people drink very little or nothing at all in the majority of their social lives. We ( alcoholics ) just tend to find other alcoholics or binge drinkers to hang out with to support our addiction.

Welcome to SR. I guess it depends on what you consider "fun". I can do anything a non-alcoholic does to have fun, except drink. That said, I wouldn't go hang out a bar or pub. I'm not going bar hopping. I'm not getting sloppy drunk at parties or sporting events. I don't think I'm missing much, if anything, in not doing so.

There was a point in my life that I couldn't imagine "having fun" without alcohol. Then I got to a point where alcohol stole every bit of fun from my life.
