Swapping Addictions

I made it through self-detox and now find myself drinking absurd amounts of milk. I'm udderly addicted to the stuff and could drink it until the cows come home. I'm concerned that I may be swapping one addiction (Demon Rum) for another (Moo-Juice) and have become powerless over milk.

So I'm trying to make a contingency plan in case I get totally hooked. Is there a Milkaholics Anonymous? MVRT? DairyRecovery.org? If I proceed along this destructive path and then try to quit will I get the DTs (Dairy Tremors), hallucinate about Holsteins, and suffer the Milk Shakes?

The horror, the horror.

Or there's the Taper Off method: whole, then 2%, then 1%. And maybe, just maybe I'll someday be able to go to a social gathering at a place like Dairy Queen and drink non-fat in moderation.

But . . . since I'm an alcoholic with proven addictive tendencies, I think I should, today, just quit cold turkey (with mayo and pickles on Russian Rye).

Hey Frank / hahaha. Great post! I think some of us have addictive personalities as you pointed out. I used to use, then switched to drinking. Got sober and my smokeless tobacco intake increased 7 fold. I started chewing gum to curtail the tobacco. Now I am going through 5 to 7 packs of juicy fruit a day!

I guess the bright side is Juicy Fruit wont kill me!!

I switched addictions from alcohol to food. I began eating whatever I wanted at all hours of the day and night (insomnia). I told myself I could eat as much as I wanted as long I drank no alcohol. It was soothing.

A month or two later my eating normalized and my alcohol cravings were cut by 90 percent.

I drink one Pepsi a day (or two). I think my body likes the sugar. Pepsi is like vitamin water to me when I think of the amount of liquor I was drinking everyday (about 600 mL of vodka)

You should be a stand-up comedian, Frank. I'm thinking the likes of Steven Wright. Can you stand up?

Jeepers. I got (((hugs))). This is such a cool site.

If it's okay with you I'll just take one hug now and put the rest in the Hug Bank. I'm sure I'll need them going forward.

Thank you, Cissy.

Yeah I had a facepalm moment very recently.

Thought I was 'just' an alcoholic but it turns out I've been medicating with several things, therefore an addict, for the better part of 25 years.

I love your humour Frank.
