not medical advice, but advice

hi so I've been sober for a while now and went in for a full check up (bloods) and ultrasound of liver ,gallbladder, kidneys heart etc it all came back normal and liver normal , But are these tests accurate? Im such a worry wart that for some reason i can't believe it can be all normal. I flogged my body for years apon years with booze how can this be. Its like i am getting ocd about it and won't believe it.

If you want a second opinion to confirm the first, then get it. They'll likely just run the same tests, though.

I felt sure I must have done significant lasting damage - but things were much better than I feared.

It's ok to forgive ourselves for our past mistakjes

Try to think of your health as a second chance savarna - make the most of it

thanks guys. I just wasn't sure how accurate ultrasounds are showing organ damage from alcohol abuse. I guess blood tests can't lie though.

Sounds like something I would think also. There is a part of me that feels I should be punished for my past mistakes. Subconsciously, I almost expect it so that when something comes back in my favor, my first reaction is to be suspect since it does not align with my faulty thinking.

Your test results are good. Give yourself the luxury of knowing that you are OK and that there is no penance for your drinking. We paid our penance many times over during our drinking days.

There is something that prolonged drinking often causes (or exacerbates) but bloods tests and ultrasound exams of the belly won't detect: anxiety.
I had it big time, too. Anxiety can also make us not trust even the clearest evidence and always imagine the worst whatever the reality.

Those tests are the most accurate methods to examine your concerns, Savarna, and they are clear for you. Use your current health inspiration to never give alcohol a chance to make any of that damage you fear. Like others said, maybe running the tests again in a few sober months time is good if you can afford it in the future, but I think you have a good enough reason to relax and remain sober now
