Hey, so you're already taking some great steps! You are seeking help. Now take it a step further and go see your doctor, they should be able to recommend some options for you.. Maybe meetings, or addiction counselling, or treatment.. What ever works for you It feels nearly impossible to get better now, but in reality getting better is very possible. Just take it a moment at a time, and actively seek support from others especially in early recovery.

That's scary. I have never told anyone about my addictions and the thought of it terrifies me

It probably sounds stupid but I feel like telling others will ruin my life

Someone once told me that he was scared to go to AA at first. He told his wife that he was scared people will find out that he was an alcoholic.. His spouse told him that people in his life already know, and that his alcoholism was obvious to everyone.

No matter how much you believe that people don't know about your drug addictions, there is a great chance they already know. I felt like my life was going to fall apart when people found out about my addiction to alcohol, but the response I got was more of relief from those around me. They were happy that I was going to recover, and now they have a much higher level of respect for me.

That feeling probably kept most of us using or drinking.

The honest truth is not doing something about it will ruin your life.

Doing something about it will not only save your life, it will give you a real life back - I promise

Thank you for saying. I often wish someone would confront me or say something but no one does
Everyday I tell myself it's a choice that I don't have a problem but it's been years since I thought I feel like having a sober day and did. How is that kind of powerlessness possible.
Why can't I take it or leave it?

Welcome!

The first step, I would advise, would be to tell your doctor. I was so scared to tell my GP about my drug problems (I stopped 5 years ago) and my drinking problems (more recent!) because I was afraid of judgement. Thing is, I spoke solidly for about two minutes, got it out, then my doctor started coming out with amazing advice and guidance and a list of resources for me to try out.

It really was a relief more than anything.

I didn't tell anyone else initially. I told my doctor then went to my local drug and alcohol addiction centre, then got involved in AA and now I do a combination of the two and come to this website.

This forum is an amazing resource and you can really change your life :-)
