over sleeper

actually I am sort of worried right now, And I am at MAYO clinic undergoing testing for 2 days..starting last Aug I started over sleeping A LOT. it is now normal for me to sleep 12 to 16 hour at a time night or day..Heavy REM sleep, nothing is coming up wrong..I drank about a quart a day for the last 2 to 3 years before sobering up. (it wasn't a good time in my life) ...This last Doctor is trying to say it was a problem cause by my -ism. But it waited for almost 4 1/2 years before showing up. before this I was sleeping 7 to 8 hours, and enjoying retired life and grand-kids. anyone else having this kind of problems?

I have never heard of this type of reaction to getting sober. How long has it been since you sobered up? People react differently when they give up the booze. Hopefully you return to your normal soon.

Hi sober4

I dunno...not a Doctor....but after 4 and a half years sobriety I'd be inclined to look for reasons outside alcoholism.

I hope the Mayo Clinic can help

Thanks for all the replies, Mayo was a 3ed opinion, no one else has ever heard of such a thing after 5 years of sobriety ether. But after two days of testing and even a brain scan we now wait. The only doctor to voice a guess so far says she thinks its CFS chronic fatigue Syndrome --- going to be goggling that tonight.

Welcome to SR, Sober4! Good to have you with us. It does seem like a stretch to blame sobriety if the issues began after 4 years of being sober. Hopefully they'll get to the bottom of it for you.
