I'm new. Hi!

I haven't reached out to anyone. I've told some I have a problem with alcohol . But it's embarrassing . I feel I'm reaching a low now . How do you get out of this place ?

Welcome,

There are multiple recovery options for your choosing that worked for many. AA, smart recovery, AVRT (addictive voice recognition technique), and SR of course.

One thing that helps me with the shame, is to think I am not the first or the last one to have fallen in the trap of this insidious and progressive addiction.

Welcome to SR Grace. You'll feel much better talking things over with people who understand. We've all been there, and we want to help. Good to meet you.

For me its recognising & accepting that i cant drink safely or responsibly & i have a mantra which is no matter what i will not drink in any given situation not for all the money in the world i then started reaching out & started taking positive action like writing up a sober plan

Good luck spk soon friend

Welcome Grace. Definitely make a detailed plan. Now's the time to dedicate your energy towards activities you gave up because of drinking, or new ones you've always wanted to do. Maybe train for and run a 5k race, learn to play the piano, start a journal. I forced myself to go to the gym at 5:30am. That meant I couldn't drink the night before, and that put my mind in the right place at the end of the day when I normally would have drunk everything in site. It also made me feel better.

Welcome to SR! When I arrived here I had no idea what questions to ask. The more I read, the more the questions (that I did not know to ask) were answered. Somehow I knew I was in the right place. Read and post as much as you can.

Hey Grace, welcome.

I find no shame in being an alcoholic.

I find shame in what alcohol does to me.
