need advice regarding relapsing behaviors

I have addiction behaviors and lost everything a decade ago, even my daughter. I fought DHS and went to inpatient and after a year got her back, 6 yrs later I injured my back majorly and needed surgeries and have been on pain medication 3 yrs and feel i am tolerant and taking my doses too closely together. I feel i need to talk to my doctor but im afraid to how i go about asking to get taken off this medicine.
I am playing Russian roulette, but I do have serious chronic pain and am afraid I won't be able to deal with my pain. I am so stupid, to even be on the medicine this long. Thought I was managing but now I realize I am not.I had a U.A. and pray it was normal, she ran a second test on it andnot sure about the results, it was a huge wake up call, I don't know what to do I don't want to lose my daughter, I can't believe I am doing this medication incorrectly, I am so dumb, wasn't what I went through in the past enough? I need help And advice on how to even start this conversation with my doctor, I don't even know if she knows I'm an addict. I don't talk about it. I don't want to be labeled, I know, horrible.

Hi marytfree

I think it's very important to be honest and open with your Dr about your past and the difficulties you're having now.

It's vital you nip things in the bid now.

Of course I'm not a Dr and I don't know what pain you're having but it's worth exploring all your options - maybe even finding a specialised pain management Dr?

For any kind of chronic pain there's usually a range of treatments available, including non narcotic options.

I just started using a TENS machine for example and I've seen improvement already (I have chronic pain from cerebral palsy)

I'm really glad you've joined us - welcome

D

Welcome mary - it's so good to meet you. You are not alone anymore.

I agree with Dee. You'll feel so relieved when you talk it over with your doctor and get some help. You have nothing to be ashamed of, and please don't call yourself stupid, dumb, or horrible. You are none of those things. You're seeking help, and that makes you very wise.

Please also look into LED light therapy units for natural healing.

My mom has severe spinal stenosis throughout her entire back, and has gotten tremendous relief without the use of pain meds. It's nothing short of a miracle really.

EDIT : this is the one I got for her. Worth every penny. You can use it on any place that has pain. It also is supposed to reduce wrinkles.
