Spiking perfection

So my running buddy and I haven't kept up with our running over the winter....last month we signed up for a 10K. Then we never started running. So yesterday morning I pick her up and it is terribly cold. I am all bundled up for a winter race... And I am thinking how this is exactly why I haven't run all winter. I hate the cold and I hate the treadmill. My running buddy is a bit flighty and she doesn't even have gloves! So I give her my car spares....

So we decide to walk it. No other walkers had signed up for the 10K. It was an out and back and we got to mile 1 and people were streaming back for the 5K. I was realizing I'm going to be out here for almost 2 hours and I wanted to RUN! But we kept walking and catching up with all kinds of chatter. There was no one out exercising or biking it was so cold. We were basically alone!

We finished dead last. My old self would have been mortified. My new self was laughing and joking around with the race organizers waiting to pack it up!

Thus starts the running season for 2015....

CodeJob,

I'm impressed that you didn't blow it off and you even finished it. Doesn't matter if you walked or ran it - you FINISHED. Half the battle was just getting out the door in the cold weather. I would have been like "why did I even sign up for this?!" and then stayed home feeling guilty. Good for you!

Awesome job! Good for you for sticking with it and finishing in the cold! Whether you walk or run 6 miles is great exercise!!!

I'm thrilled that my son (age 7) has started running with me. Some of our best chats occur while we are running. (Although during this morning's run it was all about pretending to outrun aliens that were chasing our spaceship. LOL)

Glad you had a good start to your day!

Yay!! That's great that you could laugh it off! I'd like to be in that mindset someday.
