I've started meditation - with an app

My addiction counsellor recommended it as a way of dealing with physical tension and anxiety. So I took a look on-line too and found an App on ITunes which I have now used twice - one yesterday and once today.

I must say it has the desired effect. For one thing it makes me sit still for 20 minutes which I am not too good at doing. It is a combination of a slow hypnotic voice combined with encouragement to relax and focus on your breathing.

I see the potential and I will keep it up. 20 minutes a day is worth it!

Will post a link if anyone is interested. There is loads out there though.

Meditation isn't easy, and some days it just doesn't work at all for me. But, it's such a great way to step away from the business of life for a little while and relax.

I tried an app called "twelve", it contains the Big Book and meditation. The meditation part's not doing it for me, so I'd love to hear about the one you're using.

Hi Mentium, I've also tried using an app for meditation. Those 20 minutes seem to drag on for forever! I suppose I just have to keep on going.

Has anyone tried Transcendental Meditation?

It isn't recovery focused - not that that matters. It is called Complete relaxation' on ITunes. I dare say it is available for android too.

I love The Honest Guys on you tube. They do some amazing guided mediations and visualizations which I find really really helpful.

No affiliation- just a happy subscriber.

I have been doing the free Oprah/Depak Choprak meditation that is going on ....I think we are on day 11 of 21, and it is very good.

The meditation portion is about 15 minutes, and it flies by! Very relaxing, and helps with stress!

I had a similar conversation with my therapist this week and didn't know where to start. Thanks, Mentium...I just downloaded it!

I'm actually doing the same thing. Just started last week. Jon Kabat Zinn mindfulness and breathing really helps. My therapist put me on to him and tried out a few techniques. They really do calm you and allows you to feel the control you have over yourself.
