Hello, New Here
Hello, I came across this site this morning as I am now 6 days sober after basically 13 years or so of daily drinking, wine and beer mostly, at night as a way of relaxing, forgetting about my daily life and then "passing out" into bed.
I've been trying to stop this destructive habit for probably 11 or 12 of those 13 years. Been successful for a couple days at a time, a week or two a couple times, but always managed to fall back into the old habit.
I'm in my early 40's now, married, two wonderful boys, and I'm seriously contemplating giving up alcohol for good. I think by this point I know that I can't be a social or once-in-a while drinker, it's all or nothing for me.
Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself and see what this site has to offer. Hopefully it'll help me stay on track this time around.

I feel the exact same way as you. It's all or nothing for me 90% of the time as well (maybe if I'm on a date, or with a client, etc, I can moderate).
I'm attempting to give up alcohol for good as well. On Day 33. Definitely stick around here and read what people have to say.

6 days is a great start - they are usually pretty bad times for me, so well done.
I am only on day 9 myself but starting to feel some of the benefits. I only joined 9 days ago but I am glad I did. Welcome and good on ya! :-)

Hi and welcome. You sound as if you drink in the same sort of pattern I did. I am newly sober on this occasion - only nine days, but managed 11 months last year.
The sort of daily drinking you describe really does catch up with us. It gets tougher and tougher to quit too in my experience. I'm making a real go of it on this occasion though. Hoping you can too! Welcome!

I am about your age and in a similar situation. I have not been able to quit on my own and have went to my first AA meeting last night. You might want to consider AA or some group to help you. The reason we have trouble is because we have one drink. I have been sober about 6 days and I am never looking back. It is going to be a hard road but I believe in myself with the help of AA and god. Good luck Friend

Thanks for all of your hellos and welcomes! Glad I found this forum, I think it'll really help with some of the issues I've faced in the past in my long overindulgence of, and subsequent efforts at trying to conquer the booze.
One of my biggest issues currently is getting a sound nights sleep. If and when I do, I think it'll help immensely.

Welcome to the family! At almost a week you should be over the worst of physical withdrawal. As to sleep, it will come. Tho it sometimes takes a while to get good sleep again.
I'm glad you decided to get sober. Getting sober is the best thing I've done for myself - aside from getting dogs and cats for companions.
