time used better

Tonight at work I was in the grocery store and saw my old friends cab and merlot. I wanted SOOOOOO badly to kick it once again. Instead, I kept it moving and left with only food.

I stopped by the Home Depot on the way home and bought a couple pots and potting soil and came home and potted a couple plants I wanted to give as gifts to some very special co-workers.

Instead of drinking and accomplishing nothing again I have something beautiful to give someone. But Lord was it so hard tonight.

Day 3 and I will make it. Thanks for the support here. Reading has kept me strong so far.

Good job! Since becoming sober (2 weeks tomorrow), I've rediscovered things that I haven't done in a while - drawing, jogging, and watching terrible movies (for fun). At times, it is just to keep my mind away from urges, but as I do the activities, I also realize that what I'm doing gives me joy and makes me happy. It is a good feeling all around.

Doing something for other people (getting outside of yourself) is a great way to move forward with your recovery. Good job tonight!

The only reason I sound positive is I've never wanted something as much as I want to be sober right now. I've lost friends, some family, and the love of my life because I chose alcohol over them. I'm doing this for me because I don't want to lose myself too.

All your supportive posts are appreciated more than you know. From the bottom of my heart thank you.

I had the same experience today too, TMTP. Went to the RiteAid, and it seemed like every aisle had booze of some type in it! I had to keep doing a 180 and darting into another aisle. It was everywhere I turned. I'm only two weeks sober myself, and I haven't really had any cravings per se, but this constant in your face barrage was kinda freakin' me out. I was worried it might trigger something. But, like you, I got what I needed and got out of there, then spent some time working in the yard. Much better use of my time than sitting on the couch drinking wine. Congratulations on turning the situation around and making something wonderful for someone instead! That's an awesome idea for when cravings hit! Keep up the good fight!

This is a great post! Congratulations on 3 days; that is awesome!!

I find myself so busy with projects like this I think to myself, "When did I ever find the time to drink?" Drinking took so much time and energy: not just the actual consumption, but the recovery as well.

I hope that you have a great day!
