Here's how easy it is to fail

Here's how you fall off the wagon/relapse/fail in your sobriety. This is how simple/easy/insidious it can be.

I take a mild anti-depressant to help me with anxiety and (duh)depression that I used to self medicate for with (ta-da!) alcohol.

I decided I wanted to get off nicotine. I quit smoking for vaping 3 years ago. I started tapering off my nicotine juice.

I got a bit spacey. I quit taking my AD. Next thing I know there's half a half gallon of bourbon on the kitchen counter.

How the hell does one forget that they don't drink? How does one absentmindedly drive to the store and buy booze? It's just that easy folks. It happens just like that.

Absentmindedly? I don't know. How does one? There seems to me a lot of conscious decisions made to get a bottle of alcohol home.

I have heard that a bone often heals stronger in the place where it was broken. You will, too.

Maybe you can blame the march madness thread?

But seriously Trach, I'm sorry to hear that you picked it up.
I'm glad you're back.
Do you have a plan of attack for this next go around?

Sorry to hear of this Trach. Often enough I too had found myself drunk and did not "see it coming." Tough choices are ahead now, my friend. You know what you gotta do right about that bourbon, yeah?

You can quit this, my friend.

It would be just as easy to pour it down the drain. You don't have to drink it.

Yeah, this. In fact, for chronic drinkers, (like I was) it's easier to pour it out then it is to keep drinking it. Being drunk is a no-win nightmare.

Yeah, AO, I faked it. Jesus, you and carl.

I'm fairly hammered. Haven't drank in a while.

Trach, dump whatever is left of the booze and stop beating on yourself.
Instead just get working on forging some strong iron bars for your beast
The beast in me
is caged by frail and fragile bars
Don't let that lapse turn into a full fledged bender.

Just saw that you are pretty hammered. Make sure you drink water too and get some rest so your hangover is not too bad tomorrow.

Before you try and figure it out dump out the rest - you won't be able to make any sound decisions if you keep drinking.

Goodness - I really didn't mean anything by my question other than I couldn't tell if you had drank yet or not.

I'm sorry.

I hope you're ok.

I've had to taper off my anti depressant because of terrible gastrointestinal side effects, and the cravings for alcohol have come back, as well as a worsening of my mood. I can see how you would give in. I hope you didn't drink the alcohol, but if you did, well, just look after yourself, start over, and perhaps get an updated medical evaluation wrt the medication?
Best wishes.

Trachs, please pour whatever is left, even if it is just a drop. Show that bottle and your AV that they may have won a very small battle but that Trachs is going to win the war and a new battle starts NOW.

Love you, Trachs.

Hi Trach,

Feeling your pain. Please dump and stop beating up on yourself. It hurts. We all really care about you and your experience very much.

***As a matter of fact, I ate caramel fudge swirl Ben and Jerry's last night as well as a bit of Americone Dream. Turtle and the pint of ice-cream go hand in hand.

XXXXX.

No I understand. I truly do. I could write the book on relapses. And write a few sequels...

So today is a wash.

But there is a tomorrow and the great part, is you can chose to lessen the agony of what you will have to face by tossing the rest.

Pulling for you Trach.
