"It works when you work it"!

So,this is kind of an update post for:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...niversary.html

AH is coming up on 90 days at the end of March. It is so miraculous how if you're properly plugged into the program, it really works.

On December 13, AH was drinking every single day.
  • His son wouldn't be with him
  • He was denied access to his grandon
  • He had no friends
  • He had no money
  • He had no job prospects
  • He hobbled around on a torn meniscus rather than tending to it
  • He was bloated and was gaining weight by the day
  • He was diagnosed with diabetes
  • His kids wouldn't acknowledge his emails
  • He said in his own words that he was "fading away."

Now, on March 13:
  • His DIL, who wouldn't go near him with or without the baby, is collaborating with him on a puppet show production for GS 1st birthday
  • His torn meniscus has been fixed via surgery
  • He is eating extremely healthy to try to nip the diabetes in the bud
  • Therefore, he's losing weight and his skin looks pretty healthy
  • His days are packed with meetings and calls to friends he hadn't spoken with in years
  • He started a Facebook page (he was smart enough never to be on Facebook when he was drinking), and old friends have embraced him
  • His kids are proud of him and call him more than me!
  • Out of the blue, the pastor of the church he was literally kicked out of for coming to church drunk called him up and encouraged him to come back to the church
  • Out of the blue, an OLD client called him up and asked him to do a job for him--amazing since this was from the business he created and loved, but threw away with the drinking. He had no clients left--this guy called and literally BEGGED him to take the work.

As for me, I had expressed my own questions about my alcohol use/potential abuse. After I saw how ridiculous it was that I was waiting for AH to go to an AA meeting so I could go to a liquor store, I've pretty much stopped drinking myself, except for social occasions.

This is all in three months!!! Miracles abound..
I realize that it's all one day at a time, but it just goes to show you how that ripple effect goes both ways.

I'm so glad you're getting to experience life sober. Have you tried Alanon? It saved my sanity and helped me grow a great deal. Best of luck.

Wonderful update Solo

I am so happy for you both, and the rest of your family too.
