Day 7, and seriously...

…what am I doing here..? Not drinking is so easy, no way am I an alcoholic. Of course I can have a couple of beers and leave it at that. The sweating, shaking, jumpiness and general anxiety last week was all due to stress and personal problems, not withdrawal. Hard to sleep through the night with this terrible cold, getting a bottle of whisky and having a couple before bedtime is only sensible.

Yeah, right… I’ve fallen for that one before, thank goodness I’m prepared and knew this day would come. Funny how quickly we forget and begin to justify drinking, isn’t it..?

Had an eye-opening experience today, btw, a colleague sent me info on a beer-tasting happening in my office building tonight. I excused myself (I really do have a bad cold), and he replied “YOU..? Saying no to beer? You must be REALLY sick!”. And I thought nobody knew I was drinking…

Good call on skipping the Beer tasting, and even better on telling the old AV to take a hike. Hope you feel better soon!

Congratulations on a full week sober!

Good for you on passing up the beer tasting, I know that would of been hard for me.

It's funny how we can deceive ourselves into thinking we don't have a problem. Congrats and keep up the good work.

The reality of our drinking doesn't fully sink in until we stop drinking and look back. I can't believe how crazy my thinking was.

Nice post! Sounds like me. Especially when fighting a cold. "Just a little brandy."

Well done on seven days!

I love the "AV" post... I'm sure we can all relate to drinking even while we're sick ("but red wine helps me when I'm feeling congested!" LOL).

It's hard when you start to realize that your "secret" wasn't much of a secret after all. I'm sorry if that brought up any uncomfortable emotions for you.

You're doing amazing, congrats on the week of sobriety, may you have many more in your future! <3

Congratulations on seven sober days, StellaPolaris; well done.

I told myself so many lies about my drinking habits, created so many justifications for my behaviors, and rearranged so many thought processes and pathways in order to accommodate my 'drinking thinking' mindset that I look back almost in horror that I could be so self-deceptive.

Good job declining the invite to the beer tasting party.

Feel better soon.

Yes - that was definitely my AV too. Only mine kept on for decades. Congrats on your Day 7 StellaP. You are doing this thing.

That sly AV always uses the 7 day mark to rear its ugly head and suggest 'celebrating' a whole clean week! Well done you and hope you feel better soon x
