Difficult week.

Having a horrible week. Have 69 days in and all the sudden my brain won't leave me alone. Found out a friend of mine relapsed. He's not a close friend I don't really hangout with him but we text about recovery. He was very helpful in getting me to get sober. Was someone I could always talk to about whatever was going on. He had about 6 months sober and started drinking again and for whatever reason it really got my mind going about drinking again and I can't stop it. I'm having the worst cravings. I mean brutal obsessive cravings non-stop for about three days or so. I've been keeping busy and trying to keep myself occupied but I almost feel like once I entertained the thought of drinking something took over and I've lost a little resolve. I'm afraid I'm very close to caving.

Eat some ice cream, Dave. Not said lightly. It works. The cold and sugar seem to do the trick.

If that doesn't, remember that you don't want to detox again.

I know this is silly but... If your friend jumped off a bridge, would you also jump?

Is your 'friend' still drinking? Do you have any other support near you? Are you in AA? Call someone else?

Just get through the cravings. Think about what is important to you right now. You're working on your third month. Don't give up.
And ice cream also works.

It's not even about my friend really. It's more the train of thought that it created. Like I said its not like I'm around him. I don't know why. It's just an excuse to drink. Just a trick my alcoholic brain is using to get me to drink. But the knowledge of what's happening isn't making it easier

Know that there are people just like you struggling to stay sober - and they are doing it.
Be a part of the quit team.

Sometimes one day at a time is one hour at a time. Good for you to reach out.

Stick close to SR and any other sober support you have Dave.

Let the inner addict throw its toys around - it'll get tired soon
