The Worst 6 weeks of my life

Hi Everyone,

I'm back and on Day 1.

I have had the worst 6 weeks of my life. I lost my job, not through boozing, due to cutbacks, my main income stream no longer found my business services to them economically viable for the foreseeable future.

The Wife has been a big fat pain in the neck because of this and I broke, I turned to alcohol and it let me down.

6 weeks of trying to get drunk and I couldnt. Not even fracking tipsy.

Example, last night 2 bottles of red wine, 4 cans of stella and a bottle of dark run. Nothing nada, I might as well of been drinking a pepsi fracking max.

Good news is I found a new job, better money, better hours and I have decided to get clean and sober again, not like I had a choice really.

sure sounds like you're making the right choice!!

Harness the positivity of a new beginning with work and make it a new beginning for your life in general!!

I think so too. Sitting a home "trying" to get drunk, just being sober is a project in futility. I might as well resume my abstinence, knowing in absolute knowledge that even if I wanted to get drunk, the likelihood is zero.

I am focusing on a new job and day 1 job too and day 1 sober.

Although technically speaking its day 64 sober.

A good choice! The promises booze makes are all lies. I'm glad you found a better way, and a new job!

Good to see you friend ... I am back on day 5. I understand your frustration as does every. single. person. on SR. I have realized this. Hence why the support systems and networks like this are so important when battling this monster of a disease. It is so easy to drink. And so very difficult not to. Chin up, back on the horse, keep on riding. Good to see your post. Congrats on the new job ... maybe the sack was put there as a test.

Glad you stopped. You may wish to have your liver checked. Not being able to get drunk can mean the liver can't metabolize alcohol which which may indicate a very serious condition

I'm glad you're back and recommitted.

It took me a long time to get to the point where I can say this but have you considered that this entire episode is a good lesson of "things happen for a reason"? And perhaps you might even be grateful you lost the first job? You wouldn't probably have looked for a new job unless forced to and see what you've received? Better pay and better hours. Congratulations!

Welcome back, Lancashire. I am sorry that you experienced such difficulties but, as Ruby said, you may look back at this time as a blessing in disguise.

Congratulations on the new job!!!

Sobriety is so much better. Embrace it.
