I don't think it's giving away power to try to connect to someone. If you keep doing despite being rebuffed EVERY time, maybe...but if that's the case, Earthworm, this might not be someone you (or anyone) should be in a relationship with.

Of course: especially if you are attempting to change the way someone is.

I used to do that and I invariably ended up feeling powerless. Well, I was. It's a good lesson to learn.

Words have never changed an addicts life.

The only thing that can change an addict's life, his/her own action, commitment to recovery and sobriety. They have to choose this, we cannot choose for them.

But we can choose to live a life where addiction does not rule our world.
