Just for today
Just for today,
I will let go of anger.
Just for today,
I will let go of worry.
Just for today,
I will give thanks for my many blessings.
Just for today,
I will do my work honestly.
Just for today,
I will be kind to my neighbor and every living thing.

The Just For Today bookmark is my favorite piece of recovery literature.
JUST FOR TODAY I will try to live through this day only, and not tackle all my problems at once. I can do something for twelve hours that would appall me if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.
JUST FOR TODAY I will be happy. This assumes to be true what Abraham Lincoln said, that "Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."
JUST FOR TODAY I will adjust myself to what is, and not try to adjust everything to my own desires. I will take my "luck" as it comes, and fit myself to it.
JUST FOR TODAY I will try to strengthen my mind. I will study. I will lean something useful. I will not be a mental loafer. I will read something that requires effort, thought and concentration.
JUST FOR TODAY I will exercise my soul in three ways: I will do somebody a good turn, and not get found out; if anybody knows of it, it will not count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do - just for exercise. I will not show anyone that my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but today I will not show it.
JUST FOR TODAY I will be agreeable. I will look as well as I can, dress becomingly, keep my voice low, be courteous, criticize not one bit. I won't find fault with anything, nor try to improve or regulate anybody but myself.
JUST FOR TODAYI will have a program. I may not follow it exactly but I will have it. I will save myself from two pests: hurry and indecision.
JUST FOR TODAYI will have a quiet half hour all by myself and relax. During this half hour, sometime, I will try to get a better perspective on my life.
JUST FOR TODAY I will be unafraid. Especially I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give to me.

My husband read the AA Just For Today goals to me yesterday because he thought they were so awesome.
Me: "I love those, I've read them many times. I like the part about being agreeable. Those are actually from al-anon, btw."
Him: "Al-anon is based on AA, so it's actually from AA."
Me: (to myself) Higher powers, please take my need to be right about this, please! "Maybe you're right."

Having a rough day mentally with post concussion issues. If not for this, I would have been done with work hours ago. Instead I'm not done yet and am also going to work tomorrow morning.
I still have this as a screensaver, and I paused, read it, and realized those things I am doing today. It was like a rainbow while I was standing in a cold drizzle. Easy does it. Be gentle with myself. Accepting things as they are.
I was honest earlier today when I really wanted to hide, manipulate and control. It hurt to be honest in this situation, on this day. I wanted to protect someone else's emotions, I wanted to protect myself from having to deal with their anger. After that I wanted to quit my job and not have to deal with these things, but I can tell that it's my problem more than theirs. What an extreme over-reaction on my part! It wasn't that bad, other than in my mind.
It's okay for me to not be okay. That concept has taken me a long time to understand. I'll have a better day soon. Hopefully tomorrow, but if not, it'll come as I keep working my program. Doing some much needed self care.
