My father was a severe alcoholic. He worked hard to provide for our family. We always had a roof over our head, food on the table and clothes on our backs. He was always there to get us to Little League practice and games. His addiction would drive him to go on these weekend long binges where he wouldn't bother coming home at all until Sunday night or even Monday after work. It would leave my mom and my brothers and I frightened and worried for his safety until he got home. Finally, my mom asked for a divorce. It took losing his wife and kids for my dad to realize he needed help. He got it. My dad first got sober on 7/20/1998. He passed away in April of 2013. I was given his 15 year chip by his sponsor at his celebration of life.
My father was really big into AA. He may have frequented these boards, I don't know. If anybody here is from the Vegas area, I'm sure you'd know him or have heard of him. His name was Gary. His AA friends called him "Boca Chica Gary". This was due to his fondness of the Dominican Republic and their women. He had a mission to spread the message throughout the entire United States and beyond. At the time of his passing, he attended an AA meeting in 47 states as well as Canada, Mexico and the DR.
Its times like these I wish he were still around to talk to for advice and support. But I know he's looking down and proud of me for the decisions I have made to straighten my life out.
Anyways......just thought I'd share.
Day 10 for me.
