I'm sure many drinkers have felt that way, just sitting and being bored when you're trying not to drink makes it tough. It helps to find something to do to keep your mind off of drinking, of coarse that's hard if you don't feel good from alcohol withdrawals. Good choice to quit, it'll get better with time.

Boredom wasn't a problem for me but have you heard of HALT?

Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

Basically, if you are feeling triggered, reflect on these conditions to see if they are the real source and respond accordingly.

I know that awful feeling, Tear. When did you have your last drink? Do you think you might need to see a Dr.?

I'm going on a month and still not sleeping good and having anxiety attacks, it gets better every day and I keep telling myself it'll be worth it to stick it out. There's a reason you're here, you want to quit, stick it out. you'll find a lot of support here.

Hi tear
I'm sorry you caved.

the thing is if not drinking leaves us feeling bored...and then we drink to alleviate the boredom...

you're catching yourself in a pretty strong perpetual loop.

I was bored too at the start. I think everyone is. My idea of fun came in a bottle. I had no idea how to have fun outside of that.

It's kind of funny to realise it but it takes some effort to have sober fun initially. It's worth it tho.

Here are some suggestions for things to do to start you off:
http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ething-do.html

if none of those appeal...post here. Post about yourself, post to help others. Read posts. Hang in the SR arcade.

The cure for boredom is to do something. That's not beyond you, tear

D
