Hello
New to the site... read some of the old posts... feel a kinship with you.
Really want to stay sober this time. Really afraid... facing this life without my usual vice/crutch.
Have loving and supportive partner, one difficult teen daughter (also a non complaint type 1 diabetic), still working part time, have lovely home and three pets.
Drinking has been a part of my life since I was a teen. My father is an alcoholic, my mother likes to drink and my brother passed away from a drug overdose two Christmases ago and had been to rehab for drug and alcohol abuse but sadly relapsed a year later. He was a "dry" alcoholic. I don't want that, I want to be happy with my new lifestyle but still need to learn the tricks and coping mechanisms.
I am in therapy with an addiction specialist and seeing a psychiatrist for the meds for my depression and anxiety. Not sure if AA is the way for me... been to a few meetings before but not into the whole "sharing" and "Hi, I'm Jessica, and I'm an alcoholic" scenario.
Look forward to getting and offering support to others.
thanks, for being here

Hi and welcome to what can be a wonderful life experience. It’s called sobriety which is achieved by not drinking one day at a time in a row.
"Not sure if AA is the way for me... been to a few meetings before but not into the whole "sharing" and "Hi, I'm Jessica, and I'm an alcoholic" scenario."
That’s your choice obviously, just remember AA has helped millions world wide get and stay sober.
This site has great helpful people and ways to get/stay sober. To me there is no substitute to face to face meetings seeing the eyes and facial expressions along with the vocal emotions of a speaker regarding the pain of getting and staying sober. There is also a special emotion of seeing someone in pain getting hugs at the end of a meeting. It’s about one alcoholic helping another and seeing the growth of so many.
It works IF we work it.
BE WELL

Welcome to SR JR. There is a ton of support her in this community.
It helped me to read other members past posts as well. In my early days of recovery I read as much as I could. I think it definitely helps to know you are not alone. The pain you are feeling is echoed in our stories over and over.
The wonderful thing about today is that you have a choice. It's a tough choice, but if you choose not to drink today, tomorrow will be a better day.
Take it day by day, hour by hour... It might not seem like it, but you do have the strength to live without your crutch. I promise, the effort you put in to beat this is worth getting your life back!
Best wishes
