Hide AA meetings?
Ok people. Trying to find an AA meeting. Tried by my work but no one walked into the building. Tonight I'm in NJ driving a kid to an activity and I'm going to try to catch a meeting around here. I went to the address but it's a trucking company. Is that normal? The meeting is at 7 so I'm thinking to drive back around 6:45 but with no purple neon lights on people's heads saying "alcoholic" not sure how'd I know it's the right place.
If you drive up and see people standing in a circle smoking cigarettes, it's the right place.
Or ask one of the smokers if this is where the meeting is. If they say anything other than yes it might be the wrong place.
AA people will know what you mean, you don't have to say anything else besides that. If you get some kind of wise answer, roll up your windows and lock your doors.

Well, yes but no. I experienced the same thing awhile back when trying to do a meeting in my area. The when and where book said it was at an exact location, even used my gps. Maybe its a location no longer used? You can call the aa.org hotline, just to be sure. Hope you find one.

This happened to me a lot with NA and a little with AA.
If you go to a building just for meetings (a clubhouse) you can be sure a meeting will be there. Often the building will be closed till shortly before the meeting, but someone with a key always shows up and the meeting will happen.

Hah yes look for people puffing away. Thats a given. Sometimes the books are outdated, the new books came out this month though i think? If not there, try the local clubhouse in your area. Mine is open 24 7. Good luck.

besides all the other tips - NO, don't mention AA, just ask if there is a meeting here.
I went to a location once and I must have looked lost. One of the smokers asked me if I was looking for the 'meetin'. The word "meeting" is understood by those who go.

Is there a telephone mtn associated with the mtn Northern New Jersey AA
Hi all. Thanks for the encouragement. I went in. The people were really nice and really open. I couldn't bring myself to talk but I did listen. Was surprised when people were talking about resentment etc. and ways to moderate that didn't work. I could relate to both. These were just people trying to find a way. I've never been in a group of so many people willing to expose their flaws.
I will try to find a meeting around me but will hit this one when I have the cheer run.
It might work for me and I'm willing to give it a go. Thanks again.
