Havenīt posted in a while

Hi guys,

It hasnīt been going great. My tolerance is scarry, I feel sick and poisoned. I am really disappointed in myself and ful of anxiety and regret on this Day 1. I am supposed to run 20km in about 6 weeks. Donīt know if it will be possible even if I quit completely today, but I am going to try. I just keep thinking I will miss out on so much, but really alcohol is not giving me anything. I have no real plan, feel really lost but I know from before that excercise really helps. Also I will keep coming here and post. I completely lack patience, I want this day to be over NOW, I want many weeks of sobriety and to feel good and healty again.

Will aim for the run, maybe it can be a good way to stay sober in the beginning. I do however realize I need a better long-term plan.

Have a great day!

/Laura

I changed your quote a little.
Rationally you know alcohol is not giving you anything, but you feel like you're losing out if you give it up. That's exactly what addiction did to me. Made me feel things that weren't real - and believe them.

Get after that 20 km! That's a long way to run.

Welcome back Laura

I think exercise might be good motivation to keep you sober but I'm sorry to say it may fall a little flat as a recovery technique....we have a lot of runners here...

what sober support do you have? what kind of changes are you making to your life?

what kind of a recovery plan do you have?

Welcome back Laura

I second what Dee wrote. Do you have a recovery plan of some sort or some idea of one ?

Btw, 6 weeks is enough time to prep for a half-marathon if you've been running before. I have done that before !

You can do this Laura, don't give alcohol such an importance in your life, it is not the centre of universe, what exactly has it done for you, other than cause misery, if it was a friend you'd have told them to pack their bags long ago!!

Keep pushing through!!

Welcome back, Laura.

You can get back on track and back to running, too.

Try to formulate a plan; identify all your triggers and the ways you can avoid and deny them.

You can do this, Laura; don't give the alcohol the power it doesn't deserve.

Laura , if I ran 20 Feet , I'd be laying face down somewhere, probably in a ditch...Let alone 20K...

That's awesome!!

Like you and Nonsensical said , I felt and still do feel the same way...I can't quite wrap my mind around how I feel or why I feel somewhat disconnected somehow ..but they say it gets better..

And I imagine staying focused on a goal like running a 20K should keep you busy and focused for a while ..
